About Us

Promoting Trade, Investment & Tourism

The Sri Lanka – China Business Council established on April 26, 2001, was formed under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The Council was formed at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the main objective of promoting trade, investment, services and tourism between Sri Lanka and China.

  • To promote trade, tourism and services between Sri Lanka and China and in particular to promote exports from Sri Lanka to China.
  • To encourage Chinese investment and the establishment of joint ventures in Sri Lanka between Chinese and Sri Lankan investors.
  • To exchange information on trade and investment with the appropriate bodies in China.
  • To conduct joint meetings with Chinese business organizations in Sri Lanka and in China.
  • To serve as a recognized representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationships with China.
  • To promote Sri Lankan participation in international fairs in China.
  • To co-operate with the Government of Sri Lanka in the pursuit of the above objectives.
  • To undertake all matters that is incidental or conducive to attaining the above objectives.

Trade and Investment Promotion Mission from China

Members of the Sri Lanka – China Business Council participated at the networking session with the visiting six (06) member Chinese Business/ Investor delegation from China, organized by the Embassy of the Democratic Social Republic of Sri Lanka in China on 20th June 2018 at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo. The business interest of the delegation included areas such as machinery use for Deep Sea Fishing & rearing/ processing of fish, Design Development, Export Services (General), Financial Services (General), Food (processing), Gem & Jewelry, Herbal and spices, Higher Educational Institutes, Horticulture / Floriculture, Hospitality / Tourism / Hotel Management, Housing and Property Development, Knowledge Services (General), Metal, Paper, Recycling of Waste (General), Tea, Tourism and Leisure (General) etc. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Sri Lanka – China Business Council organized the networking session for the visiting delegation.

Issue of Visas

China being identified as a potential leading Market, there was great interest amongst the Entrepreneurs to visit China. During the period under review, the Council continued to facilitate speedy issue of visas to the members of the Council, with the assistance of the Embassy Officials.
